On January 12, 2012 DJ Shakey hosted a multi-room, multi-media performance gala at the Clocktower Gallery as part of her production and project residency here for ARTonAIR.org. Over 24 artists occupied 8 spaces for 3-plus hours illuminating the theme of alternative controllers for electronic instruments both audio and video.
One of the participating artists was Kentucky-born Mezzo-soprano avant-genre artist Carolyn “Honeychild" Coleman, once described as "Fugazi meets Echobelly" and as "evoking images of Kate Bush and Sarah Vaughn battling it out in a mosh pit.” In 2010 Coleman was recruited by Ari Up (R.I.P.) to join The Slits as sole guitarist on their final European/UK Tour and was a featured artist in documentaries including Afropunk by James Spooner and Fireflies and Getting My Name Up There by Katharina Cibulka. This project was made possible by a grant from the Jerome Foundation. Thanks also to Brooklyn Brewery and Ableton for support.
