Toni Dove is a live mix cinema artist. Her often interactive performances use the latest in modern technology--lasers, motion sensors, film projection, robotics--to explore the effects of rapidly changing technology on individuals and society. But despite her overt use of contemporary gadgetry, Dove's stories often involve the past: a kleptomaniac in 19th century Paris, two women in one body in Depression-era New York. Dove says she's interested in other time periods that, like our own, produced rapidly changing technology--and a culture that was trying to keep up. Dove discusses some of her past work:
Spectropia and Artificial Changelings, and her latest project Lucid
Possession, slated for a work in progress presentation with specially designed robotic
projection screens at NYC's HERE theater in January, 2010 (29 minutes).
