The Triangle Fire Remembrance Coalition
Originally aired 4/12/09

On March 25, 1911, New York's Triangle Shirtwaist Factory caught fire; as a result of the building's unsafe working conditions and bolted exit doors, 146 people died, most of them young Jewish and Italian immigrant women. This tragedy, the largest industrial disaster in the history of New York City, led to improvements in fire safety legislation and helped spur the labor movement. Host Rose Imperato speaks with The Triangle Fire Remembrance Coalition, an organization dedicated to honoring the memory of those who died in the fire, which held an event on the ninety-eighth anniversary of the fire in order to plan for its Centenary Memorial in 2011 (33 minutes).
