The Figure in Narrative, Part 2: Dana Schutz and Mei Chin

BOMB Magazine's live interview series for 2005, The Figure in Narrative, paired a prominent novelist or poet with an acclaimed visual artist for an intimate discussion about the creative process. WPS1 recorded Dana Schutz as she was interviewed by Mei Chin on Nov. 2, 2005 at the New York Academy of Art in Manhattan, who co-sponsored the event.

Mei Chin is a writer living in New York City. She has written for Saveur, Fiction, New York Times and Vogue. She was the recipient of the MFK Fisher Distinguished Writing Award in May 2005.

Dana Schutz was born in 1976 in Livonia, Michigan and received an MFA in 2002 from Columbia University. She has had solo exhibitions at the Nerman Museum of Art/JCCC in Kansas City, LFL Gallery and Galerie Emmanuel Perrotin, Paris. Her work has also been included in exhibitions at the Venice Biennale 2003, Prague Biennial 2003, Victoria Miro, London, the Saatchi Gallery, London and the Kunsthalle Mannheim. She lives and works in Harlem, New York.
