The Americas Issue: Colombia and Venezuela
Originally aired on Friday, January 22nd, 2010
Mónica de la Torre, poet and BOMB Magazine editor, sits down and explains the history of BOMB's America issues. They always offer a dialogue of sorts between two countries in Latin America (the secret shame of BOMB is that they've never dealt with Canada!) and the Winter 2010 issue is as timely as ever: Colombia and Venezuela. Can a brainy art magazine based in New York City help staunch the growing conflict between neighboring nations? With a cast of Femme Fatales and zany artists this could play out like a 007 flick. Monica also weighs in on the ups and downs of translation, and relates a moving anecdote about her first professional translation gig in New York--writing a letter of condolence to Roberto Bolaño's widow (32 minutes).
