Pulitzer Prize-winning poet Philip Schultz reads from his 2007 poetry collection
Failure. He relates his heart-wrenching recollections of growing up in
Rochester, NY, then tells the heart-warming story of selling
his first poem and the ensuing celebration that cost more than his paycheck (he went out for coffee). Schultz also discusses the
incredible motivational power of being told you can't do something
and how he has dealt with his dyslexia. This, in part, led to his foundation of the
Creative Writing Program at NYU and later The Writers Studio, which
follows the philosophy that anyone can be a writer. Just listen, you
doubting Thomas--he's very convincing (30 minutes).
