Paul Giamatti has become independent
cinema’s Everyman, much as Gerard Depardieu reigned in France or Glenn
Ford did in the US in the ‘50s and Jack Lemmon in the ‘60s. In Sophie
Barthes’ wry fantasy Cold Souls, Giamatti plays a troubled actor named Paul
Giamatti who has his soul extracted and retained in a soul storage facility on Roosevelt Island. It is shortly thereafter stolen and placed in the body of a
daytime soap opera actress in St. Petersburg. Giamatti talks about approaching his role as Paul Giamatti, his career and why he’s so proud of
Shoot ‘Em Up (22 minutes).
