Patrice Leconte, My Best Friend
One of France's true auteurs, the writer-director Patrice Leconte has been making hit movies for decades, in a variety of styles, from Monsieur Hire and Ridicule to The Girl on the Bridge with Vanessa Paradis to The Widow of Saint Pierre with Daniel Autieul and Juliet Binoche and The Man on the Train with Johnny Hallyday. Intimate Strangers, where a troubled woman goes to a therapist only to mistakenly walk into an accountant's office and unburden herself, has been optioned for a Hollywood remake, as has his latest My Best Friend, which is what is usually called a high concept comedy. In My Best Friend, a man (Daniel Autieul) makes a bet that he has one, and then must begin the pursuit of finding this individual; the only suitable recruit is a gabby cabby (Dany Boon).
