Omar Amiralay (1944-2011) is a documentary filmmaker and producer who describes himself as a "civil society activist". In 2000 he was one of the signatories to a document demanding the end to the state of emergency, imposed in 1963. With works such as A Flood in Ba'ath Country, he is known both in Syria and in international film circles.
