Jon Voight, September Dawn
Among the most distinguished actors of his generation, Jon Voight has always balanced his career with humanitarian efforts, whether on behalf of Vietnam veterans, Native Americans or our fighting men overseas. In a wide-ranging interview the Oscar winner who began on Broadway as the nice young Nazi who sang You Are 16 (Going on 17) in The Sound of Music discusses why he felt compelled to make the controversial September Dawn, which lays the blame for the 1857 massacre of 140 pioneers heading West in a wagon train squarely on the directive of Mormon leader Brigham Young (39 minutes).
