Haiti Benefit Concert: L'Union Fait Force
Hosted by Jeannie Hopper
Originally aired 1/29/10

One week after the catastrophic earthquake that struck Haiti on January 12, 2010, Groove Collective hosted a benefit concert for the continuing relief efforts within the country. Named after Haiti's national slogan, "L'union fait la force"--which translates roughly as "Unity Creates Strength"--Haiti Benefit Concert: L'Union Fait Force took place January 19, 2010 at New York City's Le Poisson Rouge, which donated their venue for the event. All proceeds went to The Lambi Fund of Haiti, Haiti Emergency Relief Fund, Hands Together and Grassroots International. The show featured performances by such artists as Bernie Worrell, who joined Groove Collective on organ, Dr. Loni Smith and Roy Hargrove, Yatande Bwakaiman Vodou Drums, Lionel Loueke and Richard Bona, Vijay Iyar, Swiss Chris and DJ Jeannie Hopper. All involved in the concert volunteered their services. Anyone wishing to make donations to these organizations may still do so through the website of L'Union Fait Force, accessible here (31 minutes).
