Gregg Araki, Kaboom The punk provocateur (The Living End of '92 and The Doom Generation of '95) - whose very gay ‘90s movies helped establish Queer Cinema - credits John Waters with bringing him back to those roots with Kaboom. After Waters presented Araki with an award for his serious Mysterious Skin (2005) - which launched Joseph Gordon-Levitt to stardom - he confessed to wanting "another old school Gregg Araki movie." Araki complied. Set among ambisexual college freshmen, Kaboom evokes Araki’s own memories of a time that was both terrifying and terrific, boundary-breaking and frustrating.
