Gillian Wearing, People
Hosted by
Will Corwin
Originally aired on
Monday, May 9th, 2011
Turner Prize winner Gillian Wearing discusses her 2011 New York show People (Tanya Bonakdar Gallery 5 May-24 June). The catch-all title is probably the only entree to discussing Wearing's work. Several of the photos feature the artist disguised as her "spiritual" mentors in their most famous poses--Andy Warhol showing his scar, Diane Arbus with her camera, Robert Mapplethorpe with his skull cane--and the effect those artists had on her work. Wearing also talks about her first solo show at City Racing, and tells Will the story of how her piece Dancing in Peckham came about.
