Elliott Sharp explores music from the 1969-1975 "Golden Years" of Ethiopian pop. Noted for its similarities to American rock and soul, "Golden Years" pop is easily relatable to Western ears. Elliot Sharp spins tracks off of the incredible collection, Ethiopiques, released by the French record label, Buda Musique. Ethiopiques has now accumulated over twenty volumes since 1998 and has gained a cult-like following of support. Pitchfork.com rated the 2007 The Very Best of Ethiopiques: Hypnotic Grooves From the Legendary Series a 9.2.
