On May 8, 2012, Brooklyn-based artist Mariam Ghani joined Leeza Ahmady in Dialogues in Contemporary Art: Take 2 at Independent Curators International where they shared their contributions to dOCUMENTA(13)'s "100 Notes – 100 Thoughts" notebook series and their perspectives on the recent surge of international art activities in Kabul, Afghanistan.
Written by anthropologists, artists, psychologists, political theorists and authors from a range of disciplines, dOCUMENTA(13)'s published notebooks are "comprised of facsimiles of existing notebooks, commissioned essays, collaborations, and conversations." These unique notebooks emphasize the observations and drawings that re-imagine history and the arts. This idea became tangible in Ghani's non-linear notebook, Afghanistan: A Lexicon, a speculative history of 20th-century Afghanistan's central figures, places and design, as well as in Leeza Ahmady's notebook about the artist Vyacheslav Akhunov and his vast archive of personal drawings and text.
