David Goodwillie, American Subversive
Originally aired 5/7/10
David Goodwillie brings his debut novel American Subversive to 192 Books, and he's the only one properly dressed for the occasion. He discusses his intentions behind the book, which originated in his experiences writing and touring with his memoir, Seemed Like a Good Idea at the Time, and his considerations of the various implications of what it may mean to care about and follow current events in the Information Age. The novel traces the events that follow a terrorist attack in New York City in the lives of a group of cynical, canny and emotionally aloof journalists and bloggers. He reads excerpts from the book and then, presumably, takes the entire audience out for a round of drinks (26 minutes).
