This show comes from an installment of Moral Kombat, the Clocktower Gallery performance series that calculates musicians and sound artists' morality quotient as evidenced bby their performance. On this March 2011 date violin soloist, improviser, drone composer, and vocal adventurer C Spencer Yeh faced off against tape collage-ist G Lucas Crane in what was surely the most ethically fraught Moral Kombat to date. For this recording from the performance, our radio team experimented with a four-channel system, employing four mics that mix sounds from both the board and the room. We aren't usually one to boast, but the sound on this track is pretty sweet.
Known for his ability to incorporate the ephemeral and physical elements surrounding a work into his sound compositions, Yeh's performances are both sensual and expressive. He has performed and collaborated with an impressive list of artists and bands including The New Humans with Vito Acconci, Tony Conrad, Evan Parker, Thurston Moore, Paul Flaherty and Chris Corsano.
