Butch Morris & Nublu Orchestra
Originally aired
7/21/08
On the 5th day of July in 2008 P.S.1 Contemporary Art Center (now known as MoMA PS1) hosted Butch Morris conducting the Nublu Orchestra as part of the museum's Warm Up summer music series held in the wonderful outdoor courtyard.
Nublu is the uniquely adventurous and community oriented club and label on Avenue C in New York. It is described as "a force that exists seemingly without definition. One night Forro in the Dark is banging out hard-charging Brazilian folk music, and two nights later I Led Three Lives is entrancing the crowd with near-psychedelic tech-jazz. The tie that binds it all together is intangible and unnamable."
The Nublu Orchestra, a kind of house band, is assembled from the multifaceted range of musicians that call Nublu home. Band-members from Brazilian Girls, Wax Poetic, Kudu, Forro in the Dark, I Led Three Lives, and Love Trio and regular Nublu guests Graham Haynes and Eddie Henderson all sit under the baton of Butch Morris.
NuBlu will hold a series of concerts on Sundays in February 2013 to honor Morris.
