Blanka Amezkua & Ronny Quevedo
Will Corwin chats with artists Blanka Amezkua, who has a gallery in her blue bedroom in the Bronx (aptly named the Bronx Blue Bedroom Project), and Ronny Quevedo, who has a show in the bedroom-cum-gallery. They discuss the ups and downs of the Bronx art scene, and the Artist In The Marketplace program at the Bronx Museum, which is where they met. Ronny talks about how it wasn't such a change from making silkscreens in his apartment and washing them out in his bathtub, to doing an installation at the BBBP, even though Blanka wouldn't let him use her bathtub. (She didn't want her drain clogged too.) Both artists discuss the vernacular origins of their work--she uses Mexican adult comic books, he references a Latin sitcom in his installation--and the role of art in underserved communities in New York City (33 minutes).
