Amy Cappellazzo & Catherine Opie
Originally aired on Friday, April 2nd, 2010
Jane Kaplowitz chats with Sotheby's Amy Cappellazzo and artist Catherine Opie, whose 2010 exhibition, Girlfriends, opened that very night at Barbara Gladstone. They discuss the transfixing portrait that adorns the exhibit's postcard invite, Idexa, and what led Opie to choose this to represent the show. Opie discusses what she describes as one of the most personal exhibitions she has worked on, as well as the lives of many of the subjects of her photographic portraits. The three also talk about the unique honesty of her work, the active role that she seeks to play in each of her photographs and the ongoing conversation between her photographs and how intimately they relate to her life (37 minutes).
