ACAW 09: Transience in Photography
Hosted by
Leeza Ahmady
Originally aired on
Saturday, April 25th, 2009
This fascinating discussion between Chinese artist and critical theorist Qui Zhijie and Alexandra Munroe, Senior Curator of Asian Art at the Guggenheim Museum, offers great insight into the creative process of one of China’s foremost multimedia artists. Monroe opens the interview by praising Zhijie’s ability to transcend formal boundaries, a compliment that seems pitifully understated by the end of the program. Zhijie’s combination of vision and technical virtuosity contribute to an oeuvre that is utterly unique and very often breathtaking. His latest exhibit and the centerpiece of this discussion, Ataraxic of Zhuangzi - A Suicidology of the Nanjing Yangtze River Bridge, is an exemplary work. Recorded on May 12, 2009 at the China Institute (1 hour 20 minutes).
