Alec Hanley Bemis (host, producer of the Teenage Kicks series here) conceives, manages and produces creative projects that make a global impact. In 2001, alongside members of The National, he co-founded Brassland, a record label that documents the work of a growing community of musicians. In a 2011 profile, The Guardian newspaper in London said it was "at the centre of New York's other music scene," calling it "a focus for some of the city's most intriguing and creative musicians."

He continues to manage the label today, along with the careers of artists such as !!!, Alexi Murdoch and Ian Axel. Bemis also serves on the board of directors of two non-profits, Yale University radio station WYBC, and Manhattan New Music Project, an organization which sends working artists into underserved New York City public schools.

In a previous years, he wrote frequently for print publications including LA Weekly, the New York Times, the New Yorker and the Los Angeles Times, and worked at or with internationally renowned organizations such as festival promoter All Tomorrow's Parties, the Cultural Reporting & Criticism Program at New York University, Faith Popcorn's BrainReserve, Bang on a Can's contemporary classical label Cantaloupe Music, and the band Dirty Projectors.

He lives in New York City and on the Internet and tries to spend a lot of time away from both.
