The Japanther Phone Booth

Created as part of their Emerging Artist Residency at the Clocktower Gallery, Japather's Phone Booth is an interactive sound sculpture featuring the stories of fellow travelers originally recorded, and now broadcast, through the receiver of a vintage telephone booth.

This exhibition is free and open to the public, Monday through Thursday, 12 - 5pm. The Clocktower Gallery is located in a City-owned building at 108 Leonard Street between Broadway and Lafayette, so please, remember to bring you ID for security. Enter through the grey door under the scaffolding and take the elevator to the 12th Floor. Take a left, enter through the red staircase B door, and walk up to the 13th Floor. The AIR offices and studios are down the corridor.

Formed in 2001, Japanther has released over a dozen albums and toured in three continents Their artwork has been featured numerous art fairs and exhibitions including the 2006 Whitney Biennial as part of the Don’t Trust Anyone Over Thirty puppet rock opera. Additionally, Reilly and Vanek have collaborated with artists including Dan Graham, Rodney Graham, Laurent P. Berger, Tony Oursler, Penny Rimbaud, Eileen Myles, robbinschilds, Dawn Riddle, Claudia Meza, Ninjasonik, Anita Sparrow and Spankrock to create original works of visual, film, and performance art.

This project is part of the Clocktower Emerging Artist Residency Program, made possible by the Jerome Foundation, which seeks to foster a dynamic and evolving culture by supporting the creation, development, and production of new works by emerging artists.
